The venue was packed, and tickets sold out. ![]() A brand new FJ costs about $7,500 (not including shipping!) and our goal is to raise enough money to continue to replace our aging fleet and to potentially bring on a coach to help our team keep challenging themselves and one another. On July 17 th, the Wild Buffalo hosted legendary Bellingham band, The Posies, with openers and Seattle rock favorites, The Black Tones. Funds raised also go towards supplementing travel costs to local and national events, keeping costs low for our team members, and towards maintaining our boats. With the success of the last several annual fundraising auctions and with the support of our local community, we were able to purchase 3 new boats to replace those in need of retirement and are hoping to have the same level of success this year. We currently have over 40 active members, which is the largest the team has ever been, and have a fleet of 15+ year old boats that we sail on Lake Whatcom. Our sailors also give back to the sport by teaching youth sailors both locally and state wide, as well as instructing sailing courses for university students at Lakewood, Western's local sailing and watersports venue. We volunteer over 300 hours each year within our Bellingham community and honor a commitment to environmental stewardship. The team itself is comprised of active students from WWU's campus. Existing and planned projects will be reviewed, including New England Aqua Ventus, the country’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind project that will be deployed in the Gulf of Maine.In lieu of this year's silent auction (cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns), donations can be made online search for "Sailing" under Support Area. The agenda focuses on topics related to research and development, emerging technologies, permitting, and design to address drivers and challenges from a technical, regulatory, and permitting perspective. AFloat brings together leading offshore wind experts to address these drivers and challenges to chart a course floating offshore wind in the US. To seize the opportunity, technical, regulatory, and permitting challenges must be addressed. With a tri-state BOEM task force in place, ambitious renewable energy policies in Maine and other Northeast states, advances in technology, and lowering costs, floating offshore wind is gaining significant momentum. The 156GW resource located in water depths of 300-600ft is positioned in close proximity to the New England region where electricity prices are some of the highest in the nation.
